Empowering Moms: Growing through it

The goal of Empowering Moms is to help expecting and new moms and their families find a readily available source of support through community, resources, our facilitators and each other.

Thank you for being a part of it in any way possible. We have been growing for two years. After analyzing data, we are excited to say that in the past year, program involvement grew by 30% and program opportunities grew 50% – and we can support even more moms! As we work to grow, we appreciate everyone helping by being a “community marketer.” Women come to groups after being recommended by friends, coworkers, husbands, aunts, and seeing information on bulletin boards and social media. Sharing about the opportunities to connect by following and resharing our social media, putting up flyers in community spaces and just reaching out to expecting and postpartum women to let them know we are here – it all helps build community!

Currently we have weekly groups Monday, Tuesday and Thursday with a variety of monthly opportunities to connect. We are most excited to announce that as of the end of March, we now have a weekly group that meets in Bellevue every week. We have already been able to support additional moms and babies and want to spread the word about this opportunity.

Our coming schedule is:

  • Moms Night Group: April 18th from 7-8:30
  • Expecting Moms Night: April 18th from 7-8:30
  • New Moms call: Mondays at 2pm: If you’re in the first year with any of your children, we would love to have you join us. If you’re working from home, maybe you can schedule your lunch then!
  • New Moms Support In-Person:
    • Tuesday mornings in Bellevue 10-11:30a
    • Thursday mornings for Moms with 0-6m in Zelienople 9:30-11:30a
    • Monday mornings for moms with 6-12m in Zelienople 10-11:30a
  • Toddler Time for Moms with 1 and 2 year olds: Wednesday 4/5; 4/12; 4/26 10-11:30am
  • Secondary Infertility Support Call is Monday 4/24 7p

As a community supporter, parent or potential resource for young families, the best way to stay up to date on all that we are doing is to get on our bi-weekly email list.

We will be at Babies and Bumps Premier Event on April 16th. If you know any expecting or new parents, this event is a great opportunity to connect with local resources. Follow along on our social media so that they can learn more- and maybe get a chance to win tickets!

We recently expanded the infertility support through Toto and brought in a program managed by Alicia Leggett. You can find more information about that here.

On April 27th, Alicia is presenting alongside of infertility advocates from the Jewish Fertility Foundation and the Children’s Home of Pittsburgh. The workshop aims to increase awareness, remove barriers of isolation, and to foster a culture of healthy support for those going through family building challenges. This workshop is relevant to patients and families, as well as professionals, and we are offering free CEUs for physicians, nurses, and social workers. Topics covered will include infertility basics, trauma, grief, stress, and how to support someone going through infertility. Help us spread awareness by coming or sharing this event with others!
